HANDICAP RULES
The following points were decided upon in order to maintain a system of fair play for existing Members, Junior/Ladies Members, new Members and Guests.
- The lower of Club Handicap and MGS Handicap to be played at MGS competitions. In case of several Club handicaps the lowest handicap to be used. It is the responsibility of the Member to inform the Committee of his New Handicap,
failure to do so will result in the forfeit of prizes won.
- Members who are playing for the first time cannot qualify for Members Prizes but can compete for Guest Prizes only until an Official Handicap is given. A guest can then join and play as a member after TWO games playing as a guest.
- Highest allowable for Men are 24 and Women are 36.
- Members will be handed their score card prior to a competition by a Committee member, but it is up to the Member to check that the correct Handicap is written on that card – remember, the score card is ALWAYS the responsibility of the individual and NO ONE ELSE and should be scored properly, signed and counter signed by the marker.
4a. If a card is signed with more points than the score suggests, then this will be discussed with the Member and altered accordingly.
4b. If a card is signed with less points than the score suggests, then that number of points will count and no consultation will take place with the member.
4c. If a card is not signed or the points are not added up, it will be given back to the member to carry out those functions and if the Member has left the venue then a 32 points score will be recorded and the points for that day will not be eligible for winning any prizes on offer except the Novelty ones.
- If the wrong handicap is being played on the day
and is apparent there and then
the Member will be asked to fill his card again with the right handicap, however if a knockout was also played, then Member will be disqualified from the knockout competition. If Members are unsure of their Handicap they must check with the Committee before tee-off.
- In order to qualify for the Airline ticket donated by MAS players must have played three qualifying games in the current season prior to the airline ticket game.
- A player will be deducted a minimum of one stroke if they are in the Overall First or Second places even if their stableford points do not exceed 36 and will be subject to further deduction if they exceed 36 stableford points as stated in the table below playing off their handicap whichever is the Higher cut.
SYSTEM OF HANDICAPPING Based on the Stableford system of scoring. 1 .Addition
a. On the average of the last 3 score cards if the points are 27 or below . However if the player has been overall first/second in the same year this system will NOT apply.
b. The maximum a player can receive the number of strokes back in any one year is 2 but his/her handicap cannot exceed their club handicap, if applicable. If a player has no club handicap, then a review of his/her handicap will take place before the new year based on last years performances according to the table below, then a ceiling of +2 strokes will be used for handicap adjustment purposes in the forthcoming year. 2. Deduction
Immediately after the competition as stated by the score in accordance to the rating below and under Handicap point 7 above:
H'CAP H'CAP H'CAP
0-9 10-18 19-36
POINTS 27 or below +1 +1 +1 (scores for the average of last 3 games played only, see Note A below) 28-36 0 0 0 37-38 0 0 -1 39-40 0 -1 -2 41-42 -1 -2 -3 43+ -2 -3 -4 Observation Rule
The Committee reserves the right to reduce any Member's Handicap by the Observation Rule through his/her consistent performance e.g. multiple Division winner, second and third without achieving 36 points. Order of merit Points gained for the All games played during the year prior to the last game will only be counted. All disputes arising will be decided by the MGS Committee and their DECISION is FINAL.
Note A – Handicap re-calculation mechanism therefore will only kick in from the 4th game onwards, i.e. the 4th time the member plays starting in 2005 (this procedure will continue into 2006 as well, but by 2007, the results of 2005 will be discarded, i.e. only 1 year's record kept) NOT the 4th event in the 2005 MGS venue list, in other words, missed games will not be used for average calculations.
